Contact, connection and liberty
An existing family house, in the centre of the netherlands was the stage for this project. What kind of people are living here, what happens here and what is the purpose of this house? These questions asked for a close research to the concerned residents behaviours and activities. I discovered that the purpose of this house had to be a place of warmth, rest and companionship after a day of rush at work or at school. Unfortunately I thought this shot missed its goal. But why?

Concept - After my analysis I set up a concept paper with the words contact, connection and liberty - Words that are standing for a feeling that misses in the current situation. In my opinion as a result of the closed floorplan. After looking to the advantages and disadvantages I choose those words as a source for a new interior design concept.
Research to the causes of the closed floor plan through hand sketching and sketch modeling.
For this project I am inspired by the Dutch architect Herman Hertzberger.

New design
In the new situation I changed the place that caused the troubles in my experience. I took away the blocking staircase from top to bottom and changed it for an open, octopus-like stairs, squirm through the house, connecting all the different floors together for the best contact and company and a liberated feeling.
