Trade association - 'Music Frequency'

For the trade association of the music instrument makers I had to make a design for their office. A place where can be worked and convened for related issues. A design related to their trade association.

Location - groundfloor

Target - Music instrument makers

During my research I discovered that the trade association of music instrument makers is very wide oriented. All members are dealing with different instruments so there is a lot of variety inside te group. For my design-concept I have looked for similitude between the instruments instead of differences. The music is something which connects all the different instruments. Music arises from soundwaves created by frequency. For my design I have used this frequency.

Concept - 'Music frequency'

During my designing I took account of two different camps. The first camp was of the users. The plan of requirements was very important. This included a workspace, a meeting space, a toilet, a cloakroom, a pantry and storage. The second camp was the concept. The concept for the music instrument makers, Music Frequency.

Due to a lighting research I did, I thought that it might be interesting to create the idea of frequency through light. First I tried to figure out wether I could use the sun as a light source, but because of the few sun hours with the low light strength as result I had to change to a design with LED-light. Eventually I created a light-wall at the backside of the building, going through the whole building.

Visible frequency through light?

Visible frequency through LED light?

With my floor plan design I've strived for straight and clear view lines. No unessential decoration but simplicity and freshness. To interrupt the white basic interior I have used materials like walnut and steel. The clear white LED-lighting in the 3D light-wall works really well to tell a story of frequency in this simple interior.
